87 5.0, and the gas gauge only reads how much gas i have when i first start it, or on a very level surface, but when i start to drive the guage stays at full, actually past full. so if anyone has had the same problem or could tell me how to fix it. i figure it's either the float, the guage or a bad ground. thanks for the help

Sounds like the sending unit in your tank is bad.

could be the sending unit, but thats an $100 mistake if it's not, are those the exact symptoms of a bad sending unit

when my fuel pump went out, i had a 255 pump and new sending unit and my guage hasnt work, it didnt work before the pump install, i have heard there is a chip on the back of the cluster that goes out and the fuel gauge stops working right.
