I would go with catted x-pipe. Nice sound and smog legal. You really don't gain that much with non-catted systems over a catted system.

I think it all depends. It's a 5.0 right? What kind of mufflers? I believe it's generally thought X's sound better on 4.6's and 5.0's sound better with H's. Catted you keep some of your backpressure & the sound is down a bit. If you go o/r and get pulled over & the cop checks, it's a pretty large fine for every cat that's missing. I think a Bassani catted X is the way to go tho.

i dont really know about how the 5.0's sound with certain set ups. but i do know with the 4.6's if you have flow masters, i would definatly go with a h pipe. flowmaster + x = sounds like a lawnmower. just doesnt sound good. x pipes sound good with other mufflers like borla for example.

catted mid-pipes are "legal" but not LEGAL like the stock 4 catter.
aftermarket can fail visual if you have a pissed off tech, but they will pass the sniffer.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD JUST SAY F*** IT AND GO WITH THE H PIPE W/ NO CATS IT SOUNDS GREAT AND IT GIVES YOU A BOOST YOU FEEL. WHEN YOUR READY FOR SMOG JUST SWAP IT WITH THE STOCK ONE ITS SIMPLE. THATS WHAT I DID.

Then you are not very smart for passing on hearsay. X's work very well on 5.0's, sound great ,too. Don't forget the Mac Pro-chamber. I ran all three in my quest for 11's, and w/ shortie headers, I ran fastest w/ the Prochamber.

Okay, I have the offroad H which I love the sound of and I put my stock H on when it is time for smog. However, I am getting tired of having to change the damn pipe every two years for SMOG, especially if the pipe was just off a month earlier because the clutch was being changed or the tranny's synchros or etc. Which pipe has a CARB# and is legal. It also has to fit well.
I am still afraid of a catted pipe because of the backfires I get if I miss a shift. I think that it might destroy the cats.

First off please turn your caps lock off! Everyone has there own opinion on this but if you are making power a off road pipe is just too loud and you will be pulled over and your car might be taken from ya. My car may be lame with high flow cat's but it will be hard for ya to tell from 15 car link's behind Me and I don't change 1 thing and pass smog. In My experience people with slow car's try to sound loud and nasty on the street while people who are making power try to keep it quiet. jmho.

Keep em on if that's what Ya like I just figured You had it on by mistake. When I had My off road on every cop I passed either watched Me the whole way by or followed Me for a while cause it was very loud. Your car may not be slow but I will still put 15 car links on Ya.

I had an o/r BBK X pipe with 2 chamber flows that had turn downs... it sounded mean, but driving around it was loud as fu*k... then I added a V-1 strim and it got louder lol
I now have a modular (Catted or o/r) Bassani X, its the best way to go...super easy install and damned easy to swap in the cats sounds nice, imo
