so the intake on my '98 gt finally cracked and coolant is leaking (although not much) and i guess now would be a good time to get a pi intake in there since one is roughly the same price as a non-pi one. anyways, i know there's several methods in installing them. one consists of simply using rtv to smooth out the fit, another requires some porting, and one final one requires the use of adapter plates. well the kit that comes with adapter platers is $650 and i'm not sure how well the rtv method would hold up. so is my cheapest option to get a pi intake for around $190 and have someone port it and swap it in for me? keep in mind whatever i do i lack the mechanical skills and the time to install it myself. so yea, anyone know somebody or a shop that would do this? and how much should i be looking at spending?

I have a 98 and mine cracked as well.. I ended up going for the 650 one with the adapter plates. Gains were awesome. I haven't thrown it on a dyno yet, but I know that I am happy with the way it feels and from the advertising, they said they've seen a 50+ hp gain on SOME applications with this mod. I know I can tune at least 15+ hp into my setup right now and I am pretty sure I'm mid 300 HP with an N/A motor. As far as porting.. I cannot offer any suggestions, mearly wanted to let you know that I was happy with the adapter plates and PI setup. Also - it wasn't hard to install, so not genious activies needed in order to complete the install.
Good luck with whatever your choice!

well i've been reading up on other forums and think i'm just going to go with the rtv method and using pi gaskets. i think i can piece together everything for about $250. being a college student a $650 kit is just way out of my league. other than that, anyone know a good shop relatively close to fremont that has done this before and will do it for a good price? or if anyone is willing to do it for me we can work out a deal on the side?
