what are the differences between the gt40,gt40p and gt40x? i know the gt40 heads were stock for 5.0 cobras,the gt40p from explorer and the gt40x are aluminum? what are the other differences?

The GT40P flows more than the GT40 but you have to have a specific type of header. The GT40X flows even more... you can look up the #'s of fordmotorsports.com

what headers do i have to use if i get gt40p's? would bbk shorties work?

www.fordmuscle.com has flow charts for all of those. you need specific headers for the gt40p heads, i think mac and fms make them. i've also heard of mac longtubes working

Why will the bbk's or others not work? I have seen bbk's on gt 40P's and they were working fine. He had to use a wrench to get 2 of the plugs out but alot less money than buying a new pair of headers!

yes ive also heard of people using bbk shorties with gt40p's, is there a difference in exhuast port that doesnt match up with other headers.

It's just that the spark plugs are in a different location so the header tube is over some of the plugs. My friend used some 90 degree boots on his plug wires and it worked OK.

woulnd the boot hit the header? can you get a picture of you friends heads and headers? which tubes covers the park plug holes?

I used BBK Shorty Headers with my P heads with no issues.Now I have Mac longtubes.Very minimul issues with sparkplug removal,but ground down a spark plug socket and all issues went away.....
