Know this "guy" who wants to get some 4:30's put in his 99+ GT, I told him to dyno the car with the stock gears first. I have heard that when you put gears in your car, like 4:30's, dyno numbers may drop slightly, any truth to this, or do i have no idea what the hell im talking about.... Learn me something

He'd probably be slower due to all the shifting...lol

i think it would lower his dyno numbers cause dynoing in 3rd gear gives you lower numbers than 4th

Just like anything else it would be due to increase friction of the teeth on the gears that would eat up any noticable "wheel" HP
Just like having an auto

My dyno numbers were always really crappy in 3rd with the aode...
Track #s were much better...

higher gears will throw the dyno #'s off.......they wont take HP away, theyll just throw the dyno off....

That makes no sense. HP is calculated based on TQ, Dyno's calculate in TQ so explain how can gears throw off the dyno but not HP.
All gears do is allow you to get thru your rpms faster it doesnt affect TQ or HP. [ June 23, 2005, 03:53 PM: Message edited by: bunchmyfunky ]

I have done dyno pulls in 3rd and 4th on the same day. Due to the increased load of the higher 4th gear, the dyno pulls were about 5 to 10hp higher. Like everyone else said, just take it to the track.

dyno should be done in direct drive with is 4th on a 5 speed or 6 speed and 3rd in your AOD. gears do effect TQ. dynoing in direct drive finds your hp and TQ without gear reduction taking place. very complicated to me. if u dyno in overdrive you should see less TQ. and lets face it TQ is what matters here.
