From what I have researched here when your heater core goes bad it flows on the passenger floor UNTIL you make the U-turn of the hoses. My passenger floor only gets flooded when I have the system on, like vent, floor, etc. When I turn the system off nothing leaks in. Is this a different problem? This began a few months ago. I parked the car for a few weeks at that time. I took it out one day and it never leaked again. Then the other day my son asked why it was getting soaked on the passenger floor. I turned the system off and it stopped. I took the car out today and it wasn't leaking.
Help please

It's shot. Have fun.
Seriously, if your core goes out it will not necessarily leak all the time. It could go either way. But, if you get water on the passenger side, you have a bad heater core. Period.
The lines to the heater core are just a loop. Depending on the severity of the failure in the core it could leak all the time or only when the heater is on. When bypassing the core you, of course, stop the leak. Replacing the core is the best solution. I hate half-assed jobs.
Just get a new one, rip out the dash and get 'er dun. [ June 21, 2005, 09:32 PM: Message edited by: Sean90GT ]

I already have a new one on the shelf, not worried about the job.
Just checking.

the heatercore may not leak when you dont have it on a heat setting because the flapper door that controls whether you are getting cold or hot air (outside air from cowl, or heat from the heatercore box) may trap the water on top of it.
just a thought, but yea your core is done for

Well there you go! It's not that bad. I know you're capable. Just don't shatter your windshield like I did doing it (don't ask).
