This has kinda slowly been happening over the past few months, but I hardly drove it then. Now that I am back in this car, as soon as the engine is running the fuel gauge goes straight to the red/empty and stays. I put $20 to try and jar things up in there, but no good, still the same. So, I swap out the in tank sending unit and its still the same. What does this car want?

if you changed the sending unit that means its either going to be the guage or the wiring to the guage from the sender

Ok,gonna swap out the gauge since I gots another. But, if that ain't it, what could be the problem with the wire(s)? Are there relays,fuses or resistors along the way somewhere?

Pretty common problem in Fox bodied Mustangs. Your IVR (Integrated Voltage Regulator) has decided to take a dump! It's a small square circuit board mounted behind the dash on the main board. You need to pull the gauge panel to replace it. Now here's the good news. Ford discontinued this part ages ago! It gets better, NOBODY makes a replacement! Only way to get it is to scrounge the junkyards and pull dashes until you find one that works! On the plus side.........it is small enough to fit in your pocket!
