i am going to buy some heads tommorrow, and was wondering which one u guys think i should get. options are gt40 used for $300 or edelbrock 6037 new for $700. My plans for my car are to put them on when i stroke my car to a 331. do u guys think the edelbrock is worth the extra $400. thanks for reading. let me know what you think?

The edelbrocks would be worth the money if they're going on a stroker.

I say get the cheap GT-40s now and get the right head for your 331 later.

i just want to be able to hang with SS's and WS6's. But once i put my car together i dont want to mess with it, so that is why i kind of want to get the edelbrock heads. And i don't even know the advantage of aluminum heads besides weight. Thanks for the advise [ April 28, 2005, 07:01 PM: Message edited by: cees87drop ]

For NA, aluminum heads really only have a weight advantage. For other applications like forced induction, iron is prefereble for strength. Although, I have seen a SMALL HANDFUL of turbocharged, aluminum block, aluminum headed cars run deep into the 9's....

So forced induction guys dont run aluminum heads? I think most serious racers run aluminum heads in all cases, the block is a completely different strory...

I would go with the Edelbrocks. Someone on here had some AFR 185s for $1000. If you can come up with an extra $300 that would be a good deal.
I wouldn't worry too much about running aluminum heads and boost. Just make sure you get your car properly tuned.

I won't be running any boost at all. My plans are to get some heads, cam, and stroking it. i alreading have an intake. Well i'am 100% sure iam going to buy some heads tommorrow. i am just thinking with the extra $400, if i buy gt40, i could get my cam and a larger fuel pump. but this all i can think about right now. Would there be much hp difference between the two? [ April 28, 2005, 08:55 PM: Message edited by: cees87drop ]

probably a 20hp difference between the 2. either would work good on a stroker... if you want to tow a boat, lol

Agreed! These are sum really good heads & he's throwing in a set of Pro Magnum roller rockers which are almost $300 by themselves already! I don't know if there's a better out tha box head compared to these AFR's either. These would be perfect for ur future 331 stroker. [ April 28, 2005, 09:57 PM: Message edited by: Rhombeus50 ]

I run the Edelbrock 6037 with my 331 and an S-trim, and I am more than happy with these heads for what they are.

sounds like money is an issue, a little.
i'd go w/ the gt irons, and save the cash for a little port work
do the exhaust real good, and a littlwe intake work deck them a bit and call it a day
w/ cam and intake you'll dog the ls1's
