Will Afr's 185 be suitable for a 351 w/ forged internals and a procharger F1-R with 13 lbs of boost? Will these heads restrict airflow if I wanted to change the pully down the road?

Are they ported? I have AFR 185's for my 306 in my 65 Fastback. I would think they would run just fine. I would probably go with 205's though with that combo. [ April 13, 2005, 08:16 AM: Message edited by: sharkattack ]

Good question. Mine are not ported but they look like they have a lot of room to do so. The exhaust ports seem very narrow to me next to my headers.

WHy buy CNC ported heads and then port them further???? You are spending for the port work twice!
Get the 205's and go!

This is a close friends of mines car. Yes we just received his heaavy duty torque arm kit, panhard kit, plans are inline for a new rear end, we should have evrything covered by the end of the month. Also he is going to go with a DART SBF Iron Eagle Race Block, 351/9.2 Deck, 4.125 Bore.

Why use a 2k block with whimpy 1,300 dollar heads. Go for the Gold especially with that block. I have some vic jrs that ran at 2,500 after porting and assembly titanium components solid roller springs etc. I'd get some like these for that motor. They flow 340 intake 250 exhaust with 70 cc combustion chambers. I'd get the compression down low as I have with a matching set of diamond racing pistons that have a -36cc dish. This along with the heads will yield me approximatly a 8.0 compression on a 408. Ready for 15psi street pump gas and 20 race 50/50 mix. Turbo.
A lot of issues need to be adressed for a car that will be built to handle 1000hp. Basicly no skimpin out on parts. A new engine management system will be needed DFI, F.A.S.T., etc.. 72lb injectors or larger in my case I might go for 160 lb ones.
Before you know it your spending 3 times the amount of what you were planning.
Then comes the question of what for. Is 10 sec quarters your goal? Don't need all the beefy components for that a stock crank and 351w block will do that for you. Using stock electronics with a chip.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm why spend the money on a good sized blower, the bigger bore 4.125 Dart block especially, you said 351 but I hope you plan on going larger like 377+ cid, and why the hell would you use that small of a head???? I have TEA stg 3 CNC AFR185 on a 357 motor thats NA! well n20 is in the works but you get the point. I went that route because i had a small budget and parts were cheap. What is your goal??? Odviously smog isnt a concern so why not some AFR225, Dart pro-1 225cc, maybe some TFS Track heats/highports from a reputable porter or many other larger heads, then you could keep the boost down low, run on pump gas and run a 9 with a chassis,driver/suspension,and tires too mach. I hope you also have or are planning on a NICE fuel system to support that F1

I agree, 185's are too small for this setup. Either drop the cubes down significantly & use a smaller blower, or step up to some real heads like the 70cc Victor JR CNC.
185's with a 3.5 inch stroke would make a ton of low-end...but that's not where that big-ass blower works best. You need to either bring the RPM's up (by using larger heads/intake/cam) or go with a smaller blower that can bring boost in down low.

Thanks for everyone's imput. He already has the blower and the heads. He will be selling his Afr heads soon on ebay or maybe craigslist (too many cheap people on Cafords) to go with something bigger. He will buy the Dart 351 block, a company on line has them for $1850. He's going with all forged internals. To answer Fostang question, He probably wants low 10's with the bigger pulley , maybe mid to high 9's on this combo with 20 lbs of boost. This car has plans for alot of street use. It is a project hitting streets in the near future. He plans on JohnB doing his suspension work, Jon at Duncan Motors doing his assembly and probably Angie in Newark doing is block and head work.
