That owner is a member here and could probably answer some questions for you on the car. That car is very nice. Most Saleens start their life as regular GT's and then Saleen adds a kit, wheels, brakes, suspension, sometimes seats and some interior mods. Most came with Saleen borla exhaust as well. 99-02 Saleens came with Eaton M90 blowers, intercooler system, and reflashed ecu on some of the cars as options. In mid 02-04 the came with twin screw type blowers. Some Saleens have 351's in them but they are labeled as such. They were discontinued in 99. In 2002 Saleen came out with a Saleen Extreme car that had a built 4.6 with a twin screw lysome blower. Also the value's of Saleen's will not depriciate as fast as a regular GT. I had a GT before I got my Saleen that had the kit and wheels but could barely get more than what regular gt's were selling for. Also they are vin verified and labeled in Nada because Saleen is it's own company not just a tuner like Roush or Steeda. They have to pass certain restrictions to be considered their own manufacturer of cars. That car has a built block so it can handle what you throw at it.

For the most part, Saleens are stripped down v6 mustangs of their respected years (except the new ones) and re-built from the ground up by Saleen down in socal. They put in a gt motor usually and all of their suspension components. The 281 stands for the motor size; 281 cubic inches for the 4.6L v8. There aren't many differences between the saleen and the gt except some saleens came supercharged from the factory and of course, they all have body kits, rims, etc... The one you are looking at on craigslist says it has a DSS 4.6? That means that he purchased a shortblock from that company and had it built for his specified purposes. It looks like he wanted to have a strong block for running a supercharger and the DSS internals are significantly stronger than what came from saleen.
Before you buy a "Saleen" always run the numbers to make sure you are buying a REAL one. People like to fake these cars, and cobras, all the time. Especially on the internet.

Actually only the S351 cars start their lives as V6's. The rest start out as gt's. Call Liz at Saleen to verify the vin number. Yes there are many fakes but only a few have real ones.

Good info. I read something a while back that gave me the impression that all 1994-98 Saleens started out as v6 mustangs. Shows ya what I know ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
