There is a constant chattering sound coming from inside my valve covers. Its not real load but when you listen for it is easy enough to hear.
This being a new engine; should i be hearing this? Is this an indication that my valve train is not set up tight enough?

When I installed my cam a few months back, the rockers were noisy at first and then quieted down after a few minutes. They still have a slight "ticking" sound to them, but that is expected with aftermarket cams/rockers. It isn't real loud either. I have adjusted my rockers TWICE since my cam install and they still make the same, soft ticking noise. The car runs hard and I have no issues with anything at all. I have to put my head under the hood to hear the noise anyway. When the car is at idle and the hood is shut, I can't hear a thing but a clean sounding 302
Does this sound familiar? Or do you have other issues?

Pedestal or Stud mount, they could either be out of adjustment...tell me what you have so I can tell you the proper procedure to adjust.

Not exactly adjustable, but if it takes more than 1 full turn to get it torqued to 30 ft. lbs. after its snugged down, shave the rocker pivots down. It makes a difference, I have dealt with this on my friends car. PM me if you need help...

Get the shim kit and search for the directions. I think you can find them in the crane website.

You need shims if the rockers push down on the pushrods too much and you need more clearance...when they are noisy theres too much room between the rocker and pushrod, so the pedestal needs to be shaved down until it takes less than a full turn from snug to get 30ft. lbs.

Budget, you suggested shims, wouldnt that raise the rockers further, creating even more gap??
Silver, when i tightend the rocker bolts down, i dont think any of them went a full turn. 1/2 turn or less.

I belive they tightened down the max allowance.
What kind of issues will this cause besides the noise??

I didn't see anything on how many turns it took you to get to torque. If I remember, the torque should be ~24 lbs. If it takes more than 1 turn to get there THEN you need shims. Or else, you need pushrods. ALSO, make sure that the valves are in the right position when you ar torquing the rockers. You should check this before buying anything.

if it takes more than 1 full turn, that means you need a shim. you would shave the rocker pedestals if it takes less than 1/4 turn. it would be better to buy longer pushrods in this case though

Silver sorry you have your adj procedure wrong for shimming the 1.6's (actualy backwards). If it takes more than 3/4 turn to get to 22-25 (not 30) you add shims between the pedastal and the rail. This takes up the room. You don't start counting how far you turn the pedistal bolt until you are at zero clearence at the pushrod to hyd lifter.

I have these same rockers on my 5.0 too. And since day one they have seemed a little noisey. What I did on my install was:
Find zero lash Tighten to 17# And if it took more than 1 full turn to hit 17# you'd need to shim.
I didn't need to shim any of my GT40 heads. But do you think I should tighten to the 20-24# range a lot of people are suggesting?
Maybe I'll have ShiftyGT or Shiftylx listen and see what they think. It could be an exhaust leak for all I know.
