I went to pass a car going up Sharp Park Road and when I gave it gas it didn't do anything, the RPM's stayed at around 2200 but it felt like it sputtered. So I pulled to the shoulder and the car died. When I tried to restart it, it cranked but wouldn't fire. The car had 3/4 tank and I heard the fuel pump turn on when I turned the key on so I figured the pump wasn't the problem. My daughter was with me so I just had the car towed to my inlaws house in San Mateo, the next day I grabbed some tune up stuff I had at my house--plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and spare MSD 6al and MSD coil. I figured the MSD took a crap, but when I got to my car tried to start it, it fired right up. I figure the ignition module got hot and caused it to die, does this sound right? is there any way to test the module, if it is the module I figure now would be a good time to install an MSD dist

My car did that to me because of a bad TFI on the distributor. My thermostat went bad, causing my engine to get hot, made me MSD distributor hot and fried the TFI on it.

My guess is your TFI is bad, if it is and you just want to buy the TFI, you'll have to get a special tool (like $5) for the bolts that hold it on. They are like 5 1/2mm or something stupid.

Other more knowledgeable people will probably chime in and help out.

Boooo on Ford TFI mods. Easy fix though,..hopefully its just that. You'll want to have a timing light too.
