any part numbers on them?
I just bought one for $100 and couldn't find anything except a ford oval on one of the u-joints and a R number

Don't "think" so. I bought mine from Lee and just installed it without looking. HURRY UP and install it. I want to know if that fixed your vibration!

lol,...me too. I have to wait till the weekend though. Any special secrets on the install? Any kind of greese or bearings that I should be concerned about?

Not at all! Just have the rear jacked up so the fluid does not run out of the tail shaft of the tranny. I did it myself by putting it in gear/E brake and then crawling under the car and removing one or two bolts, then climb back out and put in neutral and turning the wheels so the other two bolts can be accessed. With one person there is a lot of crawling out/under the car.
If you have a friend sit in it you can loosen each bolt and just yell to put it in neutral. Then turn the shaft for each bolt and tell him to put it in gear and so on.

regreasing the u joints, i dont think they have a grease zerk, so you would have to take the caps off and regrease, making sure to not loose any needle bearings, and to get the caps off you would haveto remove the u joints from the driveshatf, thats a pita without the right tools or a press
so yeah, just stick it in ![[Razz]](tongue.gif) , make sure to be careful with the tranny output area, tranny and driveshaft, a litte nick on the driveshaft surface will cause an oil leak
while the shaft is out, you might as well put in a new output seal in the tranny

Any auto store have the new bearing for the tranny?
I guess I should change my profile to Fremont. Kinda far from you. But it sound simple enough even for me

Cool, no bearing needed, just the seal. I didn't change mine, I was just careful removing and installing. If you have no leak now I would just be careful when removing/installing it. If it does leak down the road it is a 15 minute fix.

When you remove the 4 bolts and pull out the shaft I think Eric means to be careful not to nick the seal. Be right under it and use both of your hands on each end of the driveshaft to have it completely balanced when removing/installing it.

Not neccesarily true. It does free up a little power because it is now a lighter/balanced driveshaft spinning more efficiently!

Jdub, jack up the car enough to be able to get under it...Drain ALL your transmission fluid, because you might loose a little trnas fluid changing your driveshaft and if you never done it now's a good time....Just remember to buy a gear oil pump and only use Dex III for fluid...
Installing the driveshaft is just like hiddnos said...I'd recommend putting it into gear along with the handbrake while your wrenching on those 4 pinion bolts...You're gonna need a 12 point socket or wrench for those bolts too, regular 6 point sockets or wrenches won't fit....

Those damn things are always a PITA for me so I just unbolted the shifter and did it that way. I had to get out of the car a couple times to see when it came out the upper hole, but it is easier than those darn pumps, LOL. Then again, I have probably never had the "right" kind of pump.

I guess that I need one of these driveshafts because my car is vibrating pretty good at the far end of the track. I am going to recheck the balance on my tires, but I am pretty sure it is the damn driveshaft. I hope the aluminum one fits through my loop! I wish that I would have replaced it when I had the tranny out last month. If I get one, I will try to make the swap very quickly before much oil runs out. Don, the right pump works really well for the rearend and tranny. Let me know if you know anyone selling a MS driveshaft. Funds are a little limitted right now, so I need to wait for a used one.

Craig, I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU HAVE A STOCK DRIVESHAFT ON YOUR CAR "STILL."
There is a local guy on here now that has one for $150. Name is Mr.X
If you pick it up with cash he "may" take a couple bucks less? He is in SR I think. Pm him.

Thanks again for all the advice...To bad I didn't read this before today. Yesterday I was under there trying to get the four bolts loose,...no luck. NONE of my twelve point wrenches are MM. So I had to go buy one. I didn't get a pump either so on my way back for that it started pouring rain so I just called it a day ![[Mad]](mad.gif)
How much fluid does the tranny hold? Is there a filter of any kind? Should I just buy a new seal so I don't have to make another trip to the parts store in the middle of this?

FINALLY!!!
Last night BlackNGold and I put in the driveshaft,...much easier than I thought it was going to be. After swaping the DS and Tranny fluid we took the car out for a test run. Instantly before even going above 20mph I could feel a major improvment in just shifting the car,...then we found a really long straitaway and brought the car up to 125mph with ease. I was so happy my face hurt from smileing. Vibrations are gone! The car had much more left but we came up on a couple cars so we had to slow down.
Thanks for all the advise and suggestions and thanks BlackNGold for always helping me out with the car...oh...and the electric fan! ![[worship]](graemlins/worship.gif)

Did you change your rotors lately?
Because if you did and your didnt tighten the nut that could be your problem with the vibrations.
Thats what happened to me.
