Hey this is my first post so hey Guys and Gals [Big Grin]
Well I Have an 88 5.0 mustang And I am doing a 351 W swap this summer. I had a few questions. What do the 351's pull in HP and TQ #'s stock. What do you guys Think that I am going to need for this swap. I work at an Auto body so we have all the specialty tool and everything.

Then what do you guys think with these mods
Complete Rebuild - New forged pistons with 9.06:1 compression with new valves, rockers, pushrods, timing chain,
Edelbrock Performer Lower intake manifold
Edelbrock cam and lifters with int.448 exh.472 dur @ .050 int 204 exh.14
Demon carb- What CFM should i get?
MSD distributor or MSD digital-6 plues ignition
Full length headers to mufflers, no cats
Griffin aluminum radiator

For my times what do you guys think it will pull? I will put the 3.73s, short throw shifter, and so slicks

If I forgot something tell me thanks [Big Grin]

Welcome to the board~ [patriot]

Now to your question...why are you choosing carb'd? Also, the cam is WAY small. Stock heads? If so, why? What is the car's primary purpose?

Oh, and if you want a rebuilt 351 with all the stuff you're listing (pistons, etc) lemme know..got one sitting here! [Wink]

First off, welcome to the boards.
Second, a good formula to figure out what cfm your engine needs is this

CID x Max RPM (redline) / 3456

Example: Stock 302 (5.0) x 6000 redline / 3456 = 524.3 cfms.

In your case, 357 (351 bored 30 over) x 6000 redline / 3456 = 619.7 cfms.

Remember, you don't want to under feed your engine, but you also don't want to over feed your engine. If you have too much carburetion (air/fuel) getting to your motor it will actually hurt your performance. I would shuggest a Holley 650cfm DP or a Road Demon 625cfm.

Third, are you sure you want to convert to carburetion? It's a big task, along with not being able to have your car street legal in California.

From my understanding, in California a car has to have it's original SMOG equipment or SMOG equipment from a newer vehicle. If you have a 351w from an 88+ car or truck, then you can swap everything over and be fine. Otherwise, unless you have some special way of getting around those things, you're screwed.

Now, that's just my understanding. I haven't lived in California very long so I may be wrong. I come from Indiana where we don't smog. Anyways, hope I helped out a little.

For the power that 351 will be making, I would rather keep EFI and build the stock 5.0, do heads, cam, intake, injectors. Theres not really any point to putting a very mild 351 in, at least not in my opinion. My last combo with a stock shortblock, GT40 heads(go for $400 or so), F cam($100), and a GT40 intake($300) did 13.4 in the 1/4 on street tires, on slicks high 12's would have been no problem. I have a 351w in my car, but its not mild at all...PM me if you have any questions or need work done, I am in Healdsburg too.

351 swaps are easy if you have a clue about late model Mustangs. I have never understood why everyone thinks they have to switch to a carb just to get a 351w. I had a 9.0-1 351 with ported GT-40X heads, f303 cam, 1.6 rr, 24lb injectors with a Cobra computer, Cobra intake with a Lightning lower(now discontinued from Ford), shortie headers with a cat-less X-pipe and 3.73 gears and ran 13.3 @ 109 on 225/50 street tires, and no traction. It was a really mild motor in my opinion, but the torque was great. That will at least give you an idea what a mild motor would run on narrow street tires. Obviously, ET streets would offer a major improvement.

I've got a 427W and built a few 302 strokers. From my perspective I would just stroke the 302 to 331 with a good set of AFR's or similar.

A good exercise to start with is to go to the drag racing section of this site and count the number of really fast 331's in the top 20 cars relative to the 351's 408's etc.
