93 Cobra or Cobra R I'd assume since nothing with more power ever came out of the factory to my knowledge.
Both had 235hp and 280lbs-ft
Only 107 of the Cobra Rs were produced compared to 4993 of the Cobras.

The 93 Cobras' are VERY under rated at 235hp.
I "think" Saleen made some S/C cars in the early 90's, otherwise the Cobra's were the fastest I beleive.

yeah, GT-40 heads and cobra intake manifold should be good for better than a +20hp flywheel HP gain over a stock `93 E7 headed 5.0

remember that the e7 was under rated too, i would assume
and you have to remember the cobra's draw backs, as in the horrible cam, and bad computer, but yeah it is the fastest NA foxbody

Same torque and hp ratings. The 93+s had hyperetectic pistons which are not quit as strong as the forged pistons in the earlier models. If the 88 is a Ca car, then its an MAF car, which is more easily upgraded, but a hair slower in stock form. The SD cars are faster in stock form, but for anything above bolt-ons you'll need to change over to MAF. There's a ton of threads on this already. The 'search' link at the top of this page is your friend.

Fastest or most powerful? They are two different things. My vote for fastest would be no option LX coupes w/3.08s Back in the day, when there were NO bolt-ons available for the EFI cars, they were running low to mid 13s basically stock (on Gatorbacks) with a bit of weight reduction and all the little go-fast tricks drag racers use. You don't really see that anymore because there are so many great parts available and no one who's interested in speed keeps their Mustang stock for very long.

My experience has been that the fastest years from factory have been the 1988 and 1989 mass air cars. In 1990-93, it seemed like they were not as potent especially in the top end range. Had something to do with the EPA & smog law bs. 1989 has my vote for fastest fox. -not including 93 cobra [ January 26, 2005, 09:35 PM: Message edited by: 89saleen ]

I disagree.
My '92 LX ran 13.3's at 102 on the stock motor, gears and Mcreary's.

fastest non-cobra stock foxbody is the SD `87 cars. SD is faster stock vs stock

I would think that a zero optioned (could be ordered without sound deadening and carpet even) '87 LX coupe 5-speed would give a '93 cobra a run for it's money, stock vs. stock, equal driver to equal driver.
I mean if you look at the power to weight, it's going to be awfully close, with the '93 cobra having a *small* power advantage. something like ~200 rwhp/260 rwtq vs. 225 rwhp and 280 rwtq, 3050#'s vs. 3300#'s or so.
