my friend has a 1994 gt mustang automatic. when he drives sometimes out of the blue the car will just cut off. does any body have any idea what that might be. he just recently had the car tuned up everything but the time was done. but yeah he will drive and the rpms will go to 0 and the car will cut off and coast the check engine light will come on when that happens. what could it be

sounds like the TFI module giving out. Does it happen more when it's hot?

mine did that same exact thing, I replaced the tfi, wires, and coil with no positive results...

but when I borrowed a buddy's dist, it fixed it right as rain, so it might be the sensor inside the dist going out... hope this helps!

hopefully not - changing the PIP module on a Mustang distributer is a pain in the ass. It seems really easy until you try to reinstall the cam gear only to find out that you have to slide (read - hammer) it several inches up the distributer shaft and still manage to install the retaining pin. That being said - I got it first try and only later realized I should have been concerned.

Mine never actually cut out but my computer (aftermarket) was reporting "False #1" codes - meaning the PIP signal and the crank position sensor were too far out of synch.
