Need some imput please. I have my 306 almost ready. Its going in my 1991 CHP 5 speed, with either a 3.73 or 4.10 rearend, headers, h pipe, flows, just need some help on heads and intake. My pistons are just stock, not notched or anything, so..... I have an RPM intake, should I just get the matching heads, or most people say go with the TRICK FLOW set up ie; heads and intake, 1.7 rollers and what not.

Any ideas or feedback on heads???

Here you go- extensive testing of most heads for the SBF (including two versions of the AFR 165's).

Everyone jocks AFR too much. I'd pair the trick flow TW's with that rpm intake and save a buck or two. [patriot]

they jock them because they are a good head. So are the TW. There are alot of great heads out there. The new edelbrock RPM's tested pretty well also. You have to try really hard to find a bad aluminum head. I have probbaly one of the poorest buy rep LOL

I run TW's and an RPM intake with a decent custom grind and it moves pretty good!

I've taken Edelbrock 6037's into the 11's with a box stock RPM intake & large cam (notched pistons). The heads were milled .020 inch & had some port-work on the exhaust side.
They are not bad heads, but box-stock AFR165's would have made more average power across the board.

AFR's. For my own personal bias I rate as follows:
AFR followed by Twisted wedge R and Edelbrock.
Too much casting flash and lack of finish work on the edelbrock and the twisted wedge has a great idea with valve location but is expensive to use because of the need to notch or purchase pistons.

If you select the right cam, no need to notch pistons. I ran 228* and .571" lift on my intake side w/ plenty of clearence and TW heads. It's all about the overlap phase.

I'm running the Twisted Wedge heads w/ the stage 1 cam and I am happy.

They are a good bang for the buck.
