Like I said in a previous thread, I'll be doing a 331 after the new year and people suggested I'd need a larger cam than my TFS stage 1. What are some recommendations from all of you folks out there? The block has a Comp blower grind in it and since I'll be running it N/A for at least a while, I'll need a different cam, I guess.
On another note, what is the difference between blower and N/A grind cams?

The xe274 and stage 2 are the same "type" of cam, the comp is just a little more aggressive. I would personally get the xe274, its a pretty stout cam, even in a 331

I don't know if its just a coincidence or if you were even talking to me, but the block is my buddy Mike's. I'll have to check out the cam card because I'm not sure on the specs. He just told me its a blower grind. I checked out the Comp cam and the TFS II cam and the Comp is twice the price of the TFS, so I'll probably do the Stage II cam if I switch it out.
I'll get the specs on the cam in the block as soon as I can though.
Thanks for the help guys!

i start with chevy cores, grind them to mopar specs, and use a ford part number, so this one cam will fit any car of any model
back on topic, the stage 2 is a great CHEAP cam, just make sure the motor has big enough valve reliefs, it should but checking with clay will not hurt and could save lots of money [ December 24, 2004, 10:55 PM: Message edited by: 66 AC COBRA ]

OK, I finally got the skinny on the cam in the block from Mike. Its the Comp Camps 284HR. Its a blower cam and HERE are the specs. So what are the differences between a blower cam and a n/a cam. It appears to have less lift than the Stage II cam, but more duration and lobe seperation. Should I just drop the cash for the TFS cam or can I stick with this one?

i have a 331 stroker and i use that xe274hr but if i was going to redo my cam in my 331 stroker i would go with its big brother xe284hr i think it would make some more power and torque down low in the 331 [ January 04, 2005, 06:29 AM: Message edited by: sac 5.0 ]

So the 284 is bigger? Its got less lift and duration. The only thing it has more of is lobe seperation. I'm confused...
And can anyone tell me what makes that cam a "blower" cam?

Oh, ok. The cam I was asking about is the FW284H-R14, which is the blower cam. I thought we were talking about the same cam.
But does anyone know the difference between a blower cam and an n/a cam?

i like my xe274hr but like i said if i was ever to pull the motor apart i would go with the bigger xe284hr i dont know what you mean by a blower cam and na cam i run the xe274hr na mabey with nitrous later and best so far only takeing the car out 3 times i have run 11.9 at 116 with my 331 and 2 stangs has a 331 with xe274hr and a blower and he is at like 11.30 or so.but by no means am i a cam guy i just try new and diffrent things to see if the cam helps or makes things worse if i were you and going to run a blower with a 331 i would deffiently try the xe284hr

A blower cam will have less valve overlap then a N/A cam, and will make more power. With a blower, you want the amount of time the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time, to be shorter than if you were N/A. So you can build boost. This is a quick reply, I hope It makes sense.

11.1 LOL It is a good cam (the 274) and I passed the sniffer test with it. If I was building just a mean drag car I would have gone bigger.
