OK I know its not a mustang it's just my commuter car anyways it has a problem thats been a nightmare.

One day while driving it it just died, so my first thought was the timing belt again, this isnt the case as it is perfectly in time, it has spark, 45psi of fuel pressure, compression.

while cranking it over it almost as though all the plugs are out of it while trying to start it, it just never even tries to fire, ok so I though maybe the crank sensor, nope that did nothing, now Im moving onto the cam sensor however thats a job since the intake has to come off, the fuel pump is working and I hear it prime when the ignition is turned on, however when the fuel rails shrader valve is depressed at 45psi very little fuel comes out I thought this very strange, but I dont know fords well, since it has died its never even tried to start no matter how long it's turned over.

then I heard of a similiar car having the same problems and his was the eec power module but I dont have a clue where this is or what to test to eliminate it as a problem.

what other things could cause this car to have these symtoms, fuel filter, plugs, wires, have been change and there isnt any difference in how it acts, the car passed a emmisions test real easy a moth prior to this happening so Im fairly certain the engine is not the cause, the cam is spinning and all valve appear to be working normally, I thought maybe the ignition module thing but at 92 bucks and the fact I have spark I dont think thats the cause.

any help would be appreciated and a 12 pack goes to whoever figures this problem out

my old truck did the exact same thing and it ended up being the coil.

it had spark, just not *enough* to get it to start.

good luck.

By that description, it sounds like the timing belt has slipped again. When you say that everything is in time, are you checking the cam position also? Just because the cam is spinning doesn't mean that it is in time. Make sure that TDC on the crank is also TDC on the cam. Also, what are the compression numbers?

yes the timing mark on the cam and the crankshaft are pointing at there marks, Ive been told it could have cracked the head, but with good compression I just dont see how that is causing what this car is doing.

just nothing seems to help, one person said it is the eec4 power relay but I found out from ford if the check engine light comes on with the key on then the ecm is powering up.

perhaps my fuel pump just is supplying enough volume can a pump make 42psi yet not have barely any volume, the tablespoon of fuel at that pressure has baffled me if only that amount comes out then that wouldnt even be close to enough for the motor to try and start.

this weekend I have some time and will do a complete check of everything, ford says in the event of a bad mass air sensor the car would still start just run horribly as with other sensors, they basically said to pull the fuel filter and do a actual fuel volume test and if that comes out right to check the egr cat converter, and all ground straps and get a actual spark tester and visually see the color of the spark, they said if the coil pack was a problem it could still have the ability to flash a timing light but not enough to fire the plugs.

they also said it's highly unlikely that its the ignition module becuase the coils are firing even a little bit.

will keep you updated

well against my better judgement I pulled the head off my escort, when I lifted the head the gasket looked perfect, however when I turned it upside down I saw carbon deposits that passed in the center area of each cylinder, and every cylinder was like this.

another thing all the pistons and combustion chambers looked new as in they were very shiny, is this a tell tale sign that coolant and exhaust gases were passing from cylinder to cylinder, there was no sign of coolant in the block either.

now I'm fairly certain the head is history but did my piston rings and block survive
