my AOD'S overdrive isn't working. 1st and Drive work just fine, but once i throw it in overdrive it feels like i'm just riding in neutral. can somebody tell me what could be wrong? is it just a linkage problem? does anybody know a good tranny shop around the ssf area that cold help me out?

Uh, it MIGHT be the cable, but when mine started doing that, it was dying. My suggestion is do a 5 speed swap, unless you like the auto, in which case just rebuild it with better internals, shift kit/valvebody, converter and you'll be good to go.

If you only don't have o/d, it shouldn't feel like neutral, it should just stay in 3rd gear but have no engine braking when you let off the gas.

The o/d band might be smoked, but it will still have 3rd gear. Take a whiff of the fluid and see if it smells burnt. Most likely, you have first and second, but no 3rd or o/d. Take a look at the TV cable where it attaches on your throttle body near the throttle cable. If the cable has come off, the grommet is broken and needs to be replaced, and you will need an overhaul. A relative's car exhibited similar symptoms when the OD clutch band went out.

Depends how you want to do it. If you want to use a used T5 it would be relatively cheap, maybe around 600 in parts. If you want a brand new transmission it will be around 1,500 for a new T5, if you want a new TKO it would be around 2,000+.

All those prices are including the bellhousing/flywheel/clutch.

sounds like your overdrive is done with which is common with the AOD transmissions when they are higher mileaged.I have a really nice AOD trans that I am selling.let me know if you are interested.Asking $250.00 for it and it works great.not trying to sell you anything just figured I would throw the idea out there for you to weigh the options

Racetune in hayward can do the swap for you. Stangparts.com sells conversion kits. My friend owns the shop and a big part of his buisiness is motor and transmision swaps. The shop will be closed this week because we will be in sema but we will be back on sat.

Samething happened to me a while back. I would suggest doing a 5spd swap or buy a good used AOD for now just to get you back on the road again. Good Luck!
