I had the same problem with my 5.0. First check your O2 sensors, if that dosent work. Get an adjustable fuel pressure reg and a guage, so you can turn your fuel pressure down.

is it not true that an AFPR will cause you to fail visual smog check?
I'm having similar problems, and replacing the o2 sensors, the o2 harness, and the ECT has not seemed to help
currently I'm going to MAF (from SD) on my car in hopes that the new computer will throw codes, my SD computer has no codes in it ever, even when one of my plug wires popped off and it was running like shit

what kind of thermostat is in it? If the engine is running a litte too cold it will also run a little rich ( to try to warm up the engine )

It really depends on what test you are failing. My 92' has most of the basic bolt ons (intake, injectors, maf, TB, exhaust, FPR, etc) and it was failing the NOX. The mechanic told me to change the cats *and* the EGR. I changed just the EGR ($110 fucking bux!) and it passed.
Not knowing what you are failing I would say tune the car (dist cap, fuel filter, plugs, wires, PCV), make sure your timing is at 10 degrees, clean the EGR valve, and change the oil. Also make sure the car is above operating temp before you test and go for it.
Is your check engine on?

I failed for HC and COx, hense the running rich complaint.
I believe running lean results in high NOx readings and/or bad cats, and in your case EGR
