well R blocks had just came out and A4s were few and far between at that point.

its not that i dont know anything about building motors ive built over 40 small block dorfs

its just that some blocks can handle more hp than others ive seen stock blocks go into the 9s and then Ive seen stock blocks fail in the 11s blown nitrous and na

exactly, thats why i said build it right and forget about it, some times the motor holds together and runs great, sometimes it dont [Confused] I would go with a older windsor or R block unless you got the cash for a Dart

I think a rule of thumb is...

hyd-roller late 302's.... 500-550 flywheel HP
hyd-roller late 351w's... 600-650 flywheel HP
early (69-72 ish) 351w's..650-700 flywheel HP

half-filled, an early 351w is definitely 750 flywheel HP capable...

I don't have the catalog in front of me, but the Ford motorsports A-351w bare block (2 bolt) is the equivalent (yet roller capable) of the early 69-72 style 351w, and lists the HP capacity... I'm thinking it said 650 HP.
