My buddy is getting a Novi 2000 and he offered to sell me his Powerdyne 9psi blower. I don't want to hear any "Powerdyne sucks..." or "Get a Vortech/Novi..." "blah blah" stuff. I just want he and I to come up with a fair price we can both agree on. Neither he nor I know how much it's really worth and I'm hoping some of you can help. Here's the nitty gritty:

He bought it 5 years ago.
The car has only been running for 2.5 years.
The car was never driven in the winter.
Educated guess of about 15k on the unit.
He says he's seen some going for around $900.

$900 is about half of what a new 9psi kit costs. Since it is 5 years old (2 1/2 used years) I would think you could give him about $700 for the full kit. Unless it is polished and he is going to throw in something special for you, just because he is your friend doesn't mean you have to stick with $900. I have seen superchargers go for $500-$700 less than the people bought them for even after only a 6 month usage.

But, he is YOUR friend and I am sure you don't want to hurt his feelings with a low-ball offer. Do what you think is best! [Big Grin]

Thanks for the help man. I appreciate it. Any idea how long a blower like this will typically last before the head unit needs a rebuild?

Everyone else agrees that somewhere between $700 and $900 is a fair price for the both of us?

EDIT: I forgot to ask him about injectors and an MAF... If those are included too, $900 sounds good then?

the problem with a powerdyne is they use an internal belt instead on constant mesh gears

so when the belt wears out u have to hav it rebuilt, i dont think u cant do it yourself, or so i have heard

with 15k i would be a little worried about the internal belt slipping at higher rpm

fins out what it cost to rebuild and then adjust the price from there

I've got over 80k miles on my BD-11 on the same internal belt. I run the 2.93" blower pulley with a 7" crank pulley. Car makes 430/460 at the wheels. A "rebuild" of the PD (belt and bearings) will cost you around $50 in parts - all off ebay.

They got a bad rep with the BD-10 and a bad rap from people trying to make 11+ psi out of them.

Guess how much boost I see? =)
