Okay guys, my dad and I have a 1986 Camaro Sport Coupe. Originally a v6 car now has a 305 from an 82 Camaro. Now here's the problem, we drove it around for about 2 weeks and the thing ran great. Then all of a sudden one day it started to run like crap and would barely start.
We thought maybe the timing was off, so my dad checked that and it was fine. Has a brand new timing chain. Thought maybe it was the carb so I took the Edelbrock off my other Camaro and put it on and it still ran the same. Installed new cap, rotor, coil, plugs, plug wires, alternator and it still runs like crap. Put the distributor from my other Camaro on and it still ran like crap.
That's when I noticed it, the intake bolts were all finger tight! Well I thought maybe a MAJOR vacuum leak was the problem. I decided to buy an Edelbrock Performer intake and install it, that still didn't fix the problem!!
I'm really at the end of my rope with this stupid car. WTF could be the problem? All help appreciated, thanks.
Oh, P.S. it is getting fuel. [ September 24, 2004, 02:18 PM: Message edited by: MustangNate ]

lol Yeah I kept telling my dad that. "I think it's cause it's a Chevy. If we put my 302 in there it'll run just fine."

I don't know what that could be. It seems like it should be the coil, but if you already changed that then I have no idea.

This board is for newer Camaros but a lot of them have older ones too. Register and see if someone there can help you. Good luck. Oh you may want to check the compression and the spark plugs while they are out. Also do a cylinder leak down test if you know how; if not go to the Camaro board. Again good luck.

make sure to check all of your battery connections, and make sure you have a ground to the block AND the chassis. does it turn over good?? also check the fusable link from the B+ on the battery to the starter sylinoid, it gets hot from the header.

What is really sad about this is that I've gotten more help here at a Ford site than I have at any Chevy/Third Gen F-Body site. lol
WTF is up with that? I guess Chevy guys are just assholes, glad I'm a Ford man. Thanks guys! I appreciate it and I'll keep you posted.
