I just wanted to know the symptoms of a bad TFI? Also, if the car were to die, would it run again after it cooled off?

Yes,

Best bet is to get another one and swap it in and see if it helps. Even a JY unit will work for torubleshooting.

Most auto parts store have a module tester. Some of them even know how to use it.
