Does anyone here feel any difference in accelleration or smoothness between 87 octane to 91 octane?

Especially for those people who've used these two octanes on a daily basis?

Both 5.0 and 4.6

Just wondering how others feel about it.

Generally most stock vehicle will be designed to run perfectly fine on 87 unless specifically stated by the manufacturer.

Now if you have adjusted the timing (advanced) to get more power then 91 should almost always be used for saftey as to not allow the motor to reach the threshold of detonation.

Also if anypower adders are used 91 would have to be the min. especially with our gas in Cali.

Hope that helps [patriot]

Search. There are at least 40 threads asking this exact question.

ah yes, I understand timing.
I just wanted to know if anyone out there feels any difference when driving daily on 87, but changed to 91 because they felt a big difference.

And yes i've been on here long enough to know how to search.

I'm assuming theres no one here that feels any difference.

To maybe better answer your question, the difference in "seat of the pants feel" is too hard to measure between 87 and 91 octane...If you're running 10* timming and 87, then bump up the timming to 14* and run 91 you can add some ponies, but then that all depends on the engine mods, milege on the motor and even the weather... Sorry man. I figured since you were asking such a newbie-esque question, I'd provide you with some knowledge on octane ratings. How am I supposed to know how much automotive knowledge you posses? And running 87 and 91 in a stock car won't make a damn bit of difference, but in a highly modified car, yeah, it'll make a huge SOTP difference. But how the hell am I supposed to know what kind of mods you have on YOUR car? The SOTP feel for my car may be different than the SOTP feel for your car. So your question doesn't provide enough information to provide you with an accurate answer.

87 will make more power than 91 at street compression ratios. Higher octane burns slower, so how does that fit into your faster sotp feel theory?

No, I should be the one apologizing.
It's been a crappy day for me too.

And yea, haha I would thought it was a total newb question too.
Reason why I asked is a couple buddies of mine have been saying the octane difference is Very noticeable.

Sorry everyone
