I could be, and probably am, wrong but synthetic oils can sometimes seep into areas they are not supposed to be... Like the combustion chamber. The viscosity of the oil lends itself to premature problems such as oil consumption etc. However, I do know that if you were to change over to royal purpal synthetics, your problem could be solved. I tried redline products for a while and they were shit compared to what I was using (Castrol). The only thing I still use of redline is the water wetter for the track.
OR
If you run that GT hard and you just switched to synthetic, you'll smell/see a bit of oil consumption. At least that is MY EXPERIANCES with motor oils in my cars.
But Shit... I have only had 5.0s so I may be talking out of my ass right now.
Hope this helps a little.

I burned some oil every 1500 miles using Mobil 1. I switched over to Amsoil 5W-30 and still had the entire 6.5 quarts after 7500 miles.
