The people at Autozone are usually pretty helpful. If you tell them your code, they will print out a trouble-shooting guide for your particular code and then you can go from there.

There's a book called Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control. It has some really good trouble shooting procedures.
However, it only covers 88-93. You may want to see if there is somthing similar for your car. The author is Charles Probst and the publisher is Rober Bentley Publishers

P1443-Idle Air Control (IAC) valve speed fault...
You can try cleaning your IAC or just replace it...

i had that code before on my old 97 gt. it was the purge flow sensor that went bad. its a common problem with the mod motors.
copy/paste from the corral, but i'm pretty sure its the purge flow sensor. easy fix.
"On a 96-98 cobra the purge flow solenoid is near the passenger side firewall above the vacuum canister. Its a cylindrical thingie about 1 or 1 1/2 inch in diameter and 2 - 3 inches long? Got a two pin connector on it and two vacuum lines. Trace from the solenoid towards the intake and you will next hit the purge flow sensor. This little thingie is usually the culprit behind P1443 and is only about 15 bucks from Ford."
