How much of a pain would it be to swap to the `90-`93 style steering wheel in my `89?

I pulled the column out and put it back in already during my adventures, I'm just worried about wiring hookup. My wheel has cruise buttons but the cruise throttle link isn't hooked to the cruise box, but eventually I would like to have that hooked up and functional.

I dont care about not having a functional airbag, I just like the look of those wheels better than the one on my car, and I"m not very fond of any aftermarket wheels that I have seen.

It will plug in and function correctly. The problem lies in your dash, it doesn't have the large cutout like the 90+ models have, so you'll have to swap to a gauge cluster from a 90+ model. You will also need the column cover.

if you switch wheels, you'll also lose your tilt-wheel option i think. i always took it for granted on my 89 until my 90 had the airbag.

That's not a problem, I have a 140 cluster in my garage from a `90+, and I'm pretty sure I can find that knee panel in a junkyard no problem.

Wouldn't the tilt be dependant on the column that I find shifty? i.e. tilt column would have tilt?

kev I got a whole extra colum from a 91GT with a perfect airbag, trade you for a 540 kit [worship] [Wink]

For the rest of the people,
Wont he need the sensors that go behind the front end, to make the airbag work?

lol now that I know you have it I'll just snag it. I'm not concerned with making the airbag work..I assume if I dont get the extra sensors it will never go off, thats fine with me.

worst fear is me plugging everything in and the airbag going off in my face [Confused]
