Just spent the better part of Fathers day dickin with a cd player trying to install it in my 89. Everything works properly but there is ZERO sound coming from the speakers. I check each wire one at a time to see if it was a ground out problem yet none of them would work. The deck will power up, play cd's, wireless remote works, radio channels work, memory works....just no sound.
There are two harnesses in my 89. One harness is for the speakers and one is to power the deck. Re-install my old deck everything work and so do the speakers.
My last thought is there are some wires that don't have a home on the new deck. They are:
Brown - Phone int. Blue/white - remote orange/white - illumi
Does the Blue/White wire need to go to something to make the speakers work? I don't have anymore wires coming from either harness in the car that look to go to this wire. Please help.

Granted there are more wires on the new one than the old one...how hard cant this be? Someone tell me the easy fix I'm looking over...it must be something so simple that I can't see it.

Those three wires aren't necessary, so that's not your problem. Did you get the deck used off ebay?
When you wired them did you cut the harness and guess and check? or did you buy a harness and just plugg it in?

What kind of deck is it? Used? Have you fooled around with the settings on the deck already....maybe its something with the auxillary source / output. I know my deck has an option where it cuts all mids and highs out, and just the bass from my woofers are playing.

I've messed with all the settings and nothing...I don't even get static from the speakers,
I have a wiring diagram for the the deck and the car so there is NO way they are hooked up missmatched unless the wiring diagrams are wrong.
I need so helpfull suggestions...what could happen to the deck to make it do that? I mean get power but no sound?

would it be better if I call while at home working on the deck or do you think its something you can explain while I'm at work. I'd rather call ya while I have my hands on the problem. Could this be a ground problem? I get off work today at 5pm and am home for lunch around 12 so I'll try your number at both times. THANKS!!

I found that the stock wiring (junk) not very user friendly. SOOO I just tied off the stock stuff and ran my own wires. I only used 2 of the factory wires: switched 12V and Lighting.

Just had a dumb thought but maybe....is there more than one ground wire that needs to be grounded when working with the above stereo?

After talking with PurpleN its seems the deck will not produce it's own audio and might work with an amp. Going through some of my install he is also sure it's hooked up correctly. anyone wanna buy a $200 deck for $100?

i had the same problem with my 89. it took me all day to realize that the mustang has its own amp. u have to bypass the amp by cutting the wires before the stock amp and then hooking it up to the deck. after that my deck worked perfect.

the stock amp is located right behind the stereo....its a little box, its hard to tell its the amplifier. u just have to bypass it by cutting the wires before the amplifier and hooking them straight into the stereo.

you dont need to cut the wires, just unplug the stock amp.
there's a bypass harness that goes from the cars wiring to the amp, its up around the back of the HVAC controls and takes a bit of doing to get it out so you can unplug it, the plugs look exactly the same as the stock plugs that go into the back of the factory deck.

I wouldn't get my hopes up if I was you though, I saw on the first page of this post where you say your old kenwood works fine.
that means you either had an integrater harnass that used the factory amp or it was already bypassed...

okay I found the factory amp and see two harnesses on top of it and a black harness with nothing plugged into it on top of those?
I need details on what to do next. run all the wire from the deck to the amp?
