ok i got yet ANOTHER mustang today. my 9th one. and this is my first AOD car. my problem is, it won't upshift from second. like if i go 1-D-OD it just goes 1, then 2, and thats it. or if i leave it in D or OD it just goes 1, 2, and thats it. VERY frusterating. the car is a 1986 Mustang LX, but the motor/tranny are 92 stuff... oh its a 5.0 btw. this is just a AOD, not a AODE or anything so i assume there is no computer control, correct? and if it was going into those gears but slipping then it would feel like a bad clutch right??? it doesn't even try to shift into those gears.... so i'm confused. someone please help!!!

well i checked the fluid. its pretty high.... so i'm going to drain it to the right level and see how it reacts. too much fluid would be too much pressure resulting in bad shifts correct?? or no??

thats correct, put the correct amount of fluid in it, and see how it reacts, you rather have 1qt less than 1 qt too much. too much fluid can severely damage your aod.

line pressure, improper line pressure in your aod, can make your tranny not shift into gears, make funny noises etc... i had the same problem. but to tell you the truth, just buy a new tranny. i dont think line pressure could be your prob. line pressure is definately one of the most important, in FORD aods.

An AOD will slip on take off when cold if the fluid is low. Don't worry about the fluid being overfilled a little bit. Is the TV cable hooked up to the bottom of the throttle body near the throttle cable attachment? If it isn't, the direct clutch pack has already smoked and you won't have 3rd or o/d. If the cable is hooked up, the intermediate one-way clutch might have grenaded and caused the problem. Either way, I can rebuild your trans for you if you want to do the R&R. PM me your number if you are interested and we can talk about prices.
