Im having a hard time getting my car to run right, (if feels like theres no power at partial throttle and full throttle it pings like a mofo I timed it by ear, need to get a timing gun .
Its a 306 with stock heads and I belive a little bit higher then stock compressiona point.
The engine in there (friends old engine) turned out to be platnum 4 plugs
Should I get some cheap autolite plugs or try to get the timing perfect.

From what I saw I would have to agree. Just kidding!
One range colder plugs would be 24's. Set your timing to 10 to start and just get it running right. Once it's idling right and actually running you can start bumping the timing up. My car likes to idle at 900rpm or so with the E-303.
I have a timing light you can borrow if you like. Although you did tell me that you double checked the timing when I was there...so that couldn't be it.....right?

I dont think platinum plugs would make the car run as horribly as it is though...gotta be the timing being way off.

They would make it ping though. Platinums are too hot for a 5.0. Autolite 24 or 25's have always done the job for me and can't be beat at about a buck each.

check your firing order and when youre done, check your firing order again.
i think you also have to remove the spout connector when setting the timing on efi cars. if im correct, dont forget to do that.
if you cant figure anything else out, fire that bitch up on the nitrous

i like to run ngk tr5 plugs on nitorus cars
i would set timing at 8-9 degrees so when on the nitrous u will be more than safe, how much do u trust your pump gas
but yes, since i know u alan, just get some autolite 24's and stick them in, and make sure hte firing order is correct
and yes, as chosen 1 said, when u set the timing with a light make sure the spout connector is pulled out, that lets the computer control timng
if u set timing at 10* with the spout connector in, that would make the car run like MAJOR ASS

So got the timing down to about 14 for now, changd the plugs to 24's, and added my mds coil and 6al box she runs great. But I still have a surging problem that eventually leads to the car dying but hopefully fixing my egr (computers throwing out that code) shoud take care of that. will see.

I think it will run fine after you swap the egr, since it runs great until it warms up, then it just surges.
