I've broken several roll pins which hold the distributor gear on the shaft and have now begun to eat the gear. I replaced the gear, put a few miles (maybe 25 or so) on it, and just today pulled the distrubutor to check if there was any wear. Again, the gears teeth are almost completely gone! I posted about this problem about a month ago and someone told me to check the cam retainer plate. I pulled the plate and there was little to no wear on the side facing the cam. As though the cam isn't even pushing against it?
