i bought a used tranny a couple weeks ago,my buddy put it in with a brand new clutch, and few days ago cruising down the freeway it starts smoking. So i pull off the freeway &it's hard to get out of 5'th .it comes out but wont go into 4'th or back into 5'th.so i'm sitten at the off ramp after coasting & shoved it into first so i could take off, but it stalled.i started it back up & had it in neutral, let the clutch out and it stalled.is it stuck in 5'th? ANYONE IDEAS WHAT IT IS? any help would be greatly apprieciated.thanks a lot.

Perhaps the throw out bearing was put in wrong or backwards..

Well... if the shifter is in neutral, but the car stalls when you let the clutch out, yeah, I'd say it's stuck in gear.
I think you're going to have to take out that tranny and work on it.

Have you tried checking the tranny fluid? Mines went out the other month cause it had a tranny fluid leak. Mines was just stuck in neutral and I couldn't move it. Good luck.
