inside the valve cover over the #4 cylinder, did it once but loud. could this be a result of 8 month old gas?
car is a 89 5.0 with STOCK rebuilt motor. (has roller rockers and ARP rod bolts )

hey thanks man, your always really helpful. i kinda figured bad gas, but i had like 1/2 a tank left. and didn't want to drop it, but looks like thats what i'm gonna do. thanks again.

You don't have to drop the tank to drain it. Just crack a line open somewhere. Either right after the filter or up near the fuel rails. After this is done you just short the eec scanner port and it turns the fuel pump on full tilt. Just use a paper clip between the terminals on the eec port
