Doing a tune up on my brother's car. What all do I need to take off to get to the plugs on an 01 GT? I know I'm going to need to take off each coil, but is any of the fuel system going to make it difficult?

Pretty decent write-up on changing the spark plugs on 99+ GT's.

Lets see. You'll need a 1/4 drive ratchet with a 7mm socket I think to take out the coil retaining bolts for each plug. Be careful with these as they like to cross thread going back in. A 3/8 ratchet with extension and 5/8" socket to remove the spark plugs. A mechanics magnet helps grab the plugs from the heads. Maybe a flat head screw driver to take off the intake tubing. Spark plug gapper/feeler gauge, anti seize for the new plugs. Good Luck!

Forget that link . I've done this spark plug change hundreds of times and have never taken the throttle body off or the fuel rails off. Worse case you just need a universal socket to get around things and maybe different length extensions. It's really easy and that link makes it look difficult.

That's what I thought too. But since I haven't changed the plugs in my GT, and I haven't really figured out the lazy man's way of getting it done.

Stock replacement Ford or Autolite plugs. Don't buy any stupid 4 prong plug. They don't do anything.

Agreed. Buy cheap plugs and change them often.
