I know a bunch of early Mustangs running around with late model 17s and 18s, but what do you need to do to make them work? My friend has a '66 with new front suspension and '68 spindles and brakes, and I was wondering what it takes to bolt on late wheels. Spacers...?

In the name of good taste......I would'nt put spacers on classic Mustangs. It looks tacky because it puts the wheel way out in the wheel well. The guys that I have talked to have said they had to put stock style front coil springs in with a 1 inch spacer and theyre still rubbing on hard turns. To me it's just not worth it. Spend the extra cash and get wheels that are the correct backspacing for the car.

ive had several late model wheels on my car, and the way my rearend is setup, the bullits, cobra r's, and a couple other rims, tuck absolutely perfectly. in fact i am using draglights off an sn95 in the rear. 15x8 with a 5.5 inch backspace.
in the front you have to use spacers with many late model rims, unless you get a rim skinner than 8 inches. otherwise you will hit the control arm. if you have longer studs, im not sure how that will affect your options in spacers.

Yes they usually tuck in nice on the rear of 67' up but on pre 66's they tend to be to close to the inner wheel well and the lift springs.

were those fastbacks lowered? that looks really good. I got 620 springs in front and an extra set of bullits, will mine look like that if i buy spacers?
