i've been noticing a tiny bit of axle hop when under acceleration for a while, but today when i was leaving a tire shop, i got on it in 1st, got sideways, shifted into 2nd, and then the worst axle hop i've ever experienced almost made my rearview mirror fall off! could torn torque boxes be a problem? i don't have my quad shocks installed, could that be it?it's a 1990. thanks in advance for any help. drew

you need your quad shocks unless you have aftermarket lower control arms. they control wheel hop a lot

I'm no expert and I started to have the same problem.
I was told that new upper and lower control arms would solve the problem...

The kicker shocks need to be put back on with stock lower arms if thats what you have plus if you've been driving the car hard along with the cars age I'd say that most likely the torque boxes are ripped out. Since it shakes your car a lot that would be my guess. [ February 11, 2004, 06:30 PM: Message edited by: mtbaughs ]

First make sure your torque boxes are not ripped. Otherwise these parts won't help anything

Their called battle boxes. I'd check under the car though first because that may or may not be the issue.

how easy will it be to tell if my torque boxes are ripped? will there be gashs in em, or will the bead on the sides be torn?

Jack the car up in the rear on some stands. Look where the lower control arms meet the car. All around that area is the torque boxes. If you see any tears in the metal or the box actually hanging down than thats something to fix. If not than get yourself some good arms

just put some quad shocks on, that'll help a lot. to check your torque boxes, look under the car where the control arms connect to the body and see if its bent up! upr and wild rides both make battle boxes
