I got a quote for a local shop to build me a motor, good quality and not a bad price (short block) 331. A friend suggested to save some dough and to also get a complete engine that i should go to a place that can ship them out. Money and Type of engine aside what do you guys think about these mail order engines. <br /><br />Jegs and summit offer a 345 Horse 302. MMFF has some ads; D.S.S has short and long bock using AFR heads. Central Coast Mustang has some sweet looking setups as well.<br /><br />Opinions on these companies? Benefits to having a local shop? I was seriously thinking DSS and Ford Perfomance Solutions. But reading some post on this board, I will be giving my money to probably TURBO302 and having him build the motor. There are many local guys that can build something for you. Having a local guy is a benefit as well as keeping the local hotrodder in business. Going with a mail order motor (which most are built on an assembly line) you never know how its going to turn out. If there is a warranty issue, YOU pay to ship back to them and then YOU pay to ship back to you-right there is enough to get a local guy to do it. I'm suppling the old block but having to buy a new fly wheel and balancer.<br /><br />Im getting a parts breakdown to day on exactly what going into it. I can let you know.
