well i have been putting together a car for a while and was going efi, but i cant afford the standalone i want right now, so i am going to use a carb for a while
427w, big solid roller, afr 205's, estimated at 600+fwhp with proper carb/efi system
it is vey comparable to the 418 MM&FF tested in the january issue

what size carb should i use, this will be a street driven track car, not by any means a daily driver, just cruise about 50 miles a weekend to the races, maybe in town once or twice a month, then it will see track duty

what kind of carb should i get, holley demon
i am thinkin around a 850, to get good power and decent street manners

if i get a new carb the hooley street avenger 870 was lookin good, only $400 from summit, and it should be enough, i know it would not be as good as a demon but demon's are expensive

also what is the power limit on a 750 holley carb, because i can get one real cheap from a friend, i know it would be enough but would it do

A 750 Vac Sec (properly jetted and spring'd) should be good for a "street" car application. 850's and up tend to load up considerably, unless you've got the cubes to warrant it. I ran bigblocks for a number of years, most all were street driven at one time and had 750 vc's on them.

If you have a carb that just needs a lil TLC, lemme know. I still have a few folks that do them at a fraction of the cost of a new Demon or BG. My last was a 850 DP flowed/ported to a 925! [Eek!]

Man, do I miss my bigblock Dart.. [Frown]

I just bought this carb this morning. I think this will work perfect for your setup. I bought it because it has annular boosters.

(427ci X 7000 rpm)/3456 = 864cfm

(427ci X 6000 rpm)/3456 = 742cfm

If you're absolutely positive you have a motor that will be able to pull to 7000rpm, I'd say go for the 870 street avenger. If you don't have the supporting cast, 770 street avenger would be in order. My 670 has been flawless on my 351w.

I would go with the Holley 950HP. Actual cfm rating is 830cfm. This carb kicks ass right out of the box. I would go Holley either way cause in the pits finding Demon parts is next to impossible.

Unfortunatly they stopped the production of the 950HP.It was an excellent design.I gather there wasnt enough call for it so they discontinued it.Also check into your rating numbers of the HP seris carbs as they are off.The HP seris carbs flow more than the "advertised" ratings .I have a 1050 HP dominator and the "actual" flow rating is higher than the advertised rating [Wink] The HP seris carbs were built mainly because of all the companies that were taking box stock Holleys and doing all their work and making a shit load of money doing so.So they(Holley) decided to make their own line of badass carbs. And,I must agree that the HP seris is the shit.My box stock HP 1050 is performing just as good as a 1200.00 Prosystems carb claims.

You need four Weber 45 Downdraughts. Hmmmmmm.... Nothing like the sound of 7 litre breathing though Webers.
