Whenever I start it up the whole car shakes rapidly. If I rev it up you can feel the shake like a wave starting from the front then moving its way through the exhaust to the back. When I lifed up the hood you can just see the whole engine shaking back and forth, its been going on for the past couple weeks and its driving me crazy. The car has 95,000 miles on it and I checked the air filter, distributor, firing order and oil. Could it be as simple as bad spark plugs, vacum leak, or fuel filter? Sounds like it may be running on 7. Check/relace the spark plugs and plug wires. [ November 23, 2003, 04:11 PM: Message edited by: Blu50Stang ]

Damn, I hope its not that bad. The funny thing is that this was going on over a month ago, I checked the oil and it was really low, so I did an oil change and it went away for a couple weeks, now its come back. [ November 23, 2003, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: biggerisbetter ]

could be a bad spark plug/wire or a dead harmonic balancer. if the balancer is bad, dont drive it

Get a flash light and look really closely at the motor mounts. If the rubber is all cracked and ugly, replace them.

Youre most cetainly runing in 7 pistons,,is the check engine light on? it should be on..you can pull the codes, if not, manually check the spark plugs, you may have fouled one, That happened to me once and the car was shaking like yours,,rev the car to 2500 or 3000 rpms and the shaking should go away or at least decrease in some way...Thats one thing,,the other one is a head gasket..Good luck.

yeah, the check engine light isn't on. Hopefully its just a bad spark plug or wire. How would I check to see if its the harmonic balancer?

I would first do a full tune up and then also look at the condition of the motor mounts.

when I was replacing my water pump, JohnB looked at my balancer and almost smacked me, since the rubber was sticking out about 1 inch at the highest point! Im glad as hell he caught it!!

I was about to head down to kragen this morning and get some new spark plugs, but before I left I popped the hood to take another look. I checked what I believed to be the PCV valve (at the back of the intake manifold) and it was loose!! I tightened it up, started the car, and it runs like a champ! No more shaking! I'm so relieved it wasn't anything major. Thanks for all your advice guys.

Maybe it got shaken loose from the shaking of the motor....I hope it was just that causing it though!

I dont think the PCV valve would cause your car to shake. Mine was always loose and it didn't affect it. Maby its going away for a week or two like it did before. Sorry to bring you down but oh well.

A really loose PCV valve can cause a vacuum leak, which can cause cars to run shitty and shake .

I was driving my car for two full days after I got it back from the mechanic with a new engine,,sudenly a check engine ligth appears..took it to the shop, put the scanner on,,pulled the coded,,they were about O2 sensors, because of and exhaust leak on the drivers side header,,and an EGR problem,,,dont know what that is,,but the mechanic said that a little plastic made line was loose,,so they put it back in,,as well as the exhaust,,and no more check engine light,,but today it happened again,,maybe I have to buy anothe EGR line since that one is very shitty!!
