While changing spark plugs recently I noticed that one cylinder has a spark plug that I cross threaded last time. I tried backing it out but it started to freeze up and get tighter so I left it. What will I have to do to fix this problem? Do I need new heads? Will this be expensive?
Any advice is appreciated.

It's still in there. I tightened it back up and just changed the other 7. I'll check into Kragens. I'm guessing they have a tap and die set for it. My only worry would be that something might break while backing it out (it was really tight).
Thanks. [ November 20, 2003, 12:35 PM: Message edited by: QwikStang ]

Unless they are aluminum heads, you'll break the spark plug before you hurt the head. As for re-tapping the hole, unless you are REALLY careful, you may end up pulling the head off (if you indeed need to tap the hole).

I agree, If you've got aluminum heads you'll have stripped the threads on the head. Cast iron heads will probably strip the plug. Careful on bits of metal getting in the cylinder. If you must, Helicoil kits are available to repair the stripped out thread. Not a fun job, but if you have to fix it, it can be done.
