Well, my fan clutch has decided to stop working and my fan is cracked thus I am going to replace it. I am pretty set on getting an electric fan unless somebody can convince me otherwise. I see I'm faced with quite a few choices. Ramcharger, Black-magic, stock SN-95 setup, Mark VIII, etc... Anyone have any experience or recommendations on electric fans? Will they really free up a few horsepower?

There was an old issue of 5.0 where they had a factory stock race car that gained 20 rwhp from just removing the fan. I have an interactive tech. fan that mounts in the stock shroud, it is really trick, and it flows 2800 cfm. I haven't seen one of their ads in a long time though, Black magics are cheap and are a good product as I know more than 5 people with these fans with great results.

It's hard to beat the stock fan for cooling. That's what I normally recommend. Check (and replace, if necessary) your motor mounts while you're at it. Sagging motor mounts can cause the fan to hit the shroud, which shreds up the fan. It also causes the fan not to sit in the direct center of the shroud, which hampers cooling capability.

I had a Mark VIII fan ($120 from houstonmotorsports) and it kicked ass for a couple years but my mount could have been better and I bashed it against the water pump over and over at the dragstrip and that finally KO'd it. I put the backup used MarkVII fan, which I pulled from a lincoln at the boneyard for $25 and I've been running that for over a year now. It came with the shroud which is nice. It runs as cool as I need it to but I don't make that much power (a little over 300 to the wheels) so it might not work for a bigger setup. But honestly I drive around and I don't seem to need the fan 75% of the time to keep it around 180.

I love my black magic electric fan because you can set it at a certain temp. to come on so any temp. before that it's completley turned off. Then I also have a manual switch hooked up to it so that I can turn it on manually when the car is off.

I run a black magic fan now, but it is no longer good enough to keep my car running cool. I picked up a ramcharger fan today. I've heard a lot of good things about this fan, so we'll see.
