My Cobra is getting worked on, finally. Now im bored and may want to buy a 88 5.0. Im a modular guy not a 5.0 man but would like to see what would be possiable with $6,000.00? I want to have a 3rd car. It needs to PASS smog, be 100% streetable, be in the upper 300's of HP and can run high 11's. With or without nitrous dont care, but would like to be N/A if, if possiable?
CAN YOU GUYS COME UP WITH A SETUP?

driveable, realaible, fast, and cheap dont really go toghether
to be reliable, driveable and fast, nitrous is gonna be much easier on ur wallet because its a full second + off ur 1/4 time and it doesnt hurt driveability

even a stock motor (stock untouched longblock) with nitrous should squeak an 11 on slicks with hook and an eye to some weight savings (but would not be necessary say in a low optioned LX)
my vote for heads/cam/intake + nitrous + slicks. $6k won't get you very far so you'll need a lot of deals including a max budget of like $3k for the car. Consider a 4-banger LX if you really want to stay in budget and have more time than money. If you just want to do a few bolt-ons you might start with a 5.0 instead but the budget will be tight at the end, things may break, etc. as things tend to do (like axles, trannies, etc) when spraying with slicks.

I'll have the car for sure. an 88 GT. it does come with a 302 already. But what else can or should I go with? What type of Heads? And Cam, F,X??? What brand of intake?? Im trying to stay under $6,000.00 but if i have to, I may increase a bit. As far as reliable, durable....etc..... I just need it to get from point A to point B and NOT break down. Be able to take it to the mall, movies, run around town with. So what else can I do with 6g's??????

If I had $6,000 and an 88 5.0, I would first buy Trickflow Twisted Wedge heads with the E-303 cam and ported COBRA intake,70mm TB, 30lb injectors and 3.73s. That should run ya around $2600-$2800.
Then go with 100 shot and some 26x10 ETs on draglites. Tha should be between $1800-$2000.
And your still left over with enough money to treat In-n-Out burgers to your buddies for the rest of the year!
I don't know if this set up would run 11's but thats what I would do if I had $6,000. ![[patriot]](graemlins/patriot.gif)

see that setup sounds nice and cheap, but the problem is u need gaskets, roller rockers, pushrods, new maf, probably a new radiator so driving in traffic it doesnt over heat, new clutch to hold the power, a new transmission after u grenade the stock one from putting over 400rwhp through it
another question, is the 6000 mods plus cost of car or is it the car plus 6k in mods
here is what i would do on a super budget stock heads with some home porting by u, stock cam, edlebrock performer intake, stock injectors, cheap c&l 73mm maf, everyone has one or selling one for $75, 65mm tb, long tubes and o/r pipe and mufflers other than flows, new clutch and cable with adjuster, GEARS, GEAR, GEARS, and rebuild the posi while its out, slicks, and then some weight saving stuff, and a 150 shot of NX from me
it will be cheap, will get u into the 11's with some driving skill, and will be reliable from point a to b because the power output isnt too high off the nitrous

he has a very good point...my brothers gt runs 11.7@118.9 on a 100 shot, stock home ported heads/intake e cam 3.73 gears,75mm tbody,no ac,no p/s,electric fan, long tube headers,90/10,and draglites on slicks...on more thin the car runs 12.79@107.9 on motor...the car is very streetable...

66 AC Cobra and Onesicklx, can both of these setups pass smog. Im assuming the o/r pipe and the long tubes wont pass visual. As far the $6,000.00.....thats just for the MOTOR work. Car would be already paid for. The setups sound nice any more???

it should, the cam is smog legal...but it defenetly wont pass the visual, its also missing the smog pump and cats...we have a friend that hooks up smog checks, so why even risk it if the car does not pass..

66 AC Cobra...wow, Im glad you were bored. Talk about pricing everything. NOW I really have something to work with here.
onesicklx....yes I will try to keep the car smog legal due to the fact that it sucks having to pay almost 300 dollars for someone to pass the sniffer. Unless you would like to recieve some business?
wow, this is getting better and better everyday. ![[patriot]](graemlins/patriot.gif)

If you want to get the power increase without continually spending the cash. Throw on a super charger, get a bigger fuel pump and open up the exhaust. I know a few guys that spend the money to get the motor done and a couple of others who went with the super chargers. Bang for the busk lies in the super chargers. It's always there, doesn't have a negative impact to daily driving and you don't have to keep a bottle warm or remember if it is open.

I was running high 11's with only a GT-40 crate engine and a 150 shot of nitrous with 3.73 rear gears and G60-15 cheater slicks. Engine also had shorty headers and that's it. That was about $3700 worth of stuff. Drove the car to and from work every day (70 miles) for a long time (until I got power greedy )

how long is your timeframe? do you know how to build a bottom end? i'd go with a used block, summit rebuild kit, 30 over. 10.5:1. that is only like 300 bucks and will get you more power. then either home port stock heads or GT40 irons. the 10.5:1 will make a difference. i'm not a fan of e7's but i've seen them flow pretty decent when ported and alot of bowl work has been done. do alot of weight reduction and drag racer tips (remove front sway bar) its possibly with weight reduction and good traction.
