My f***ing engine is dead 77K miles and it is dead. i can;t believe it i guess i just have a knack for breaking shit. ok so now i need to know what my options are. so i come to you all for help. perceived options:
rebuild what i have
stroker short/long block
remanufactured ford engine (called today $5K 3year warranty)
302/351 swap??? is this possible what would be the adv/disadv????
I would like to have more power, street/strip/road course/ all around fun car.
oh, i don;t have any money this is going on a credit card so i do have to pay for it money is an object, and object i don;t have so if the 302/351 swap is like 20K then that is not realistic. please help.

Go to HCI in Sac and have them build you a long block....
I would stay away from a remanufactured engine...It depends on the remanufacture, but most of them have shitty quality control issues...
How high is the credit limit on your card?...Maybe you could get the new 5.0 4v modular crate motor from Ford... ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

dont do a windsor motor. you have NO chance in passing smog. and swapping motors will be a major pain in the ass time and time again

I think by him saying, "money is an object," that means a $15k engine is out of the picture

A brand new 99 Cobra motor is $6000 ready to drop in. That includes all accessories, h pipe and transmission. A Mach 1 motor is the same price, but doesn't include the tranny or exhasut.

rebuild vs. stroker ?????
so i made some easy decisions
NO 302/351 (due to smog issues)
NO 03cobra motor (cost and reliability issues)
so now i need to find a good shop that the warranty actually means something. anyone know of anyone in the area? i have been told HCI but can't get their number.

Going with a HCI rebuild with the prep for a s/c. Cole seems extremely knowledgeable. I take my car up there on Saturday. wish me luck.

You will need about 12k when you are done.
I have a brand new 01 long block still in the crate.

Keep us updated as to what is done. And how much because work on these modulars is expensive. Will you be putting in blower cams or getting any head work?

If you are low on bucks, one Idea would be to take an automotive technology class at a J C like De Anza and rebuild the motor your self as a class project.

Our Dual Kevlar clutch has been tested and proven up to 800hp and 8,500rpm. (We sell a Kevlar/metal clutch that can handle even more.) It will also typically last 50% longer than competitors' clutches. HCI has installed our Dual Kevlar clutch many times when putting a new motor in, so they're familiar with it. ![[burnout]](graemlins/burnout.gif)

ok so the car is at HCI as we speak and the engine is being pulled. as for upgrades as poor as i am i decided to go with the ARP head and main studs. as for the heads (porting) and cams i am unsure if i should. I need to aske what the hp increases will be. I also need to think about headers, now the debate is shorty headers or full length. as of now i have stock manifolds magnaflow x pipe with cats (which cost some money) and stock cat back. if i go long tube i need to buy new headers and h/x pipe. that will only increase the cost.
so i am not sure longtubes or shorty's???? any ideas?

Well I see you settled on HCI, but if you decide to go another route...
I would check out http://www.greenleafauto.com/ I got an 02 GT motor with only 32 miles on it for 1k. They have lots of motors and you can get warranties as well. They have a good reputation as well... [ November 17, 2003, 08:48 PM: Message edited by: deep22 ]

so longtubes are great but i can't pass smog? that sucks. what if i have cats on the h/x pipe or is it strictly based on long tubes are not allowed? as for the hook up when that time comes for smog again what are my options? because i don't have a hook up. how much will shorty's choke the engine? if i have to go with shorty's which ones would you go with?

not that much difference between LT and good shorties (like 6 or 7hp)....get JBA shorties and get out of trouble when it's smog time...
