I tought it was 6250, like on foxes... but mine shuts off at like 5250!

my 95 auto shifted at about 5500. I never heard the rev limiter oncein that car, and I know Ihad it at least to 6 at times. I think it might be your comp or the 94and 95 autos are different

At 6225 RPM the EEC kicks in a "soft" rev limiter. Something like two thirds of the fuel is cut so the engine will rev slow. Under low load conditions (in neutral) you can rev the motor to the moon since the remaining fuel after the cut-off is plenty for the motor to rev past 6225. If your car is hitting a "wall" at 5500 RPM, make sure your fuel pump, fuel filter, and the rest of the fuel system is up to par and functioning properly.

dang, is cuts off just before 5500, and the next thing I was gonna replace was the fuel pump!

I took my 95 up to 6500 easy and had no limiter or problems. (this was a built motor though but that should not matter as far as the problem you are having)
