all the reccomended stuff for the service intervals should be in the owners manual...

they probably are going to do coolant/ spark pulgs/wires, oil/ filters, yadda yadda... Ive been told "new cars do have a bumper to bumper warranty, but it doesnt cover "consumables" like oil, and filters and the such"

and charge you a lot for labor. I would ask them what they do exactly, and do it myself, if they charge you for labor... [Razz]

at dublin nissan we charge i think 300 for a 30k service. it includes tranny fluid, oil, coolant, rear dif fluid flush, full inspection of car, brake inspection, tires rotated and balanced, some additives in the car, new air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs. timing set, windshield washer fluid added, belt inspection, lubricate all hidges and locks, inspect exhaust system, inspect suspension and everything else under the car. inspect tire wear. and road test. i think thats all of it. the whole thing takes about an hour and a half to do. 600 or whatever is a rip off. if it was around 300...its worth it

This is the recommended 30k miles maintenance for the '02 Mustang straight off of the Ford web site:

Change engine oil and filter
Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums, brake lines and hoses, and parking brake system
Inspect engine cooling system, hoses and clamps
Perform multi-point inspection
Rotate tires for optimal tire life
Inspect complete exhaust system and heat shields
Inspect wheel ends for end play and noise
Replace engine air cleaner filter
Replace fuel filter
Inspect and lubricate steering linkage, suspension and drive shaft

Now all of this you can do yourself very easily. They are gouging the hell out of your girlfriend. Even if the dealer was doing this work it should only be about $35 for the oil/filter change. $15 for the fuel filter and $20 for the air filter with about 0.5 hour labor at say $75 per hour. Add another hour (2 MAX!)just for good measure to inspect all the stuff on the list and rotate the tires. Total would be $182.50 to $257.50 depending on if they took an hour or two hours for the inspections and chassis lube.

If I were you I would have her take it in for the oil change (most dealers now have coupons online that get you a deal on oil change) and maybe fuel filter. Then you can install the air filter and rotate the tires for her. Check the brake pads and rotors for her while the wheels are off.

Then tell him to pay for it! [Big Grin]

...or get a receipt book from the stationary store and write one out for him. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of your sense of humor! [Wink]

Maybe just call a couple of places and ask for a quote on oil/filter change, replacing air filter, replacing fuel filter and tire rotation. The rest if just sticking their head under the hood and making sure that the belts aren't loose, there's brake fluid, the exhaust doesn't leak, etc. You could also get this stuff done at a Quick-e-lube type place. Service like this does not have to be done at the dealer to sustain the warranty.

Shop around, she's getting hosed.

Sean90gt has the service schedule right according to the manufacturer. There is no need paying for work that doesn't need to be done. Don't pay the high end dealer cost, if you shop around a little you can get the work done for a little more than $100.00.
