Okay so I have a t5 out of a 90 5.0 that needs to be rebuild it is stuck in neutral, and I have a T5 out of a 89 that 3rd gear blew apart on so it definalty has broken parts and now only goes in 4th gear. What should I do, have the 90 rebuilt for $500 or whatever and will it be all I need or should I just buy another used one for say 300 or so. Or should I just keep saving and get a tremec 3550? Whats the best thing to do and what are the costs? what will last, I just want some feedback. How good is a rebuilt T5? are they not as good or what? Thanks Casey

A rebuilt T5 will be worth the extra $200 or so over another used trany....You can have them rebuilt with better syncro's, super alloy gears and different ratios if needed...
I've blown up atleast a couple of stock replacement T5's...So I recommend that you definately up-grade...
What are your future plans?...I dont think that a T5 is the best trans for a high horse power drag car... ...

Well my plans for now are a lightwieght fast drag car that I do drive everyday. I am not going to be doing heads, cam, intake or anything for awhile but I do like to race it hard and on slicks. If I rebuild my T5 will it hold up to racing? I just don't want to deal with another broken tranny 2 or 3 months down the line. Thanks

I havent had any problems with the T5 I just rebuilt myself....I used D&D's rebuild kit and their 3.35 super alloy gears....
As long as you try and stay away from power shifting you should be OK....

I wouldnt say cant but it is a lot harder to break a Tremec, KC I would just save up for the 3550 or find a used one on corral or ebay! Its an investment you will never hate! Just remember your drivetrain is only as strong as the weakestlink, so instead of trannys going, watch for universals or axles to start going!

On the flip side of this, if you go with a 3550 they eat up more power than the T5's do. Which will be puting you farther away from that 12.9999999
I can't say why you keep breaking trannys, but I can say that some production T5's hold up quite well. Shoot, I'm still on my stock 140,000/450+ pass T5 [ September 30, 2003, 06:14 AM: Message edited by: Yellow94GT ]

Or you can try g-force they make a t-5 rebuild kit to withstand 800ftlbs in I think it's a 3,200lbs car.

So whats the deal with this g-force kit? How good is it really, I know that there is no way in hell it handles 800lbs of torque on slicks but if it does half that I would be interested.

KC I know that you want that 12.9999 like Drew mentioned and the T-5 will take less power to do it. I think right now since you arn't planing on big things right now just rebuild it and no powershifting, wait for the tremec till you make more power, there are a lot more people that make a lot more power then you that run a T-5 just fine. Rebuild it and save some dough for other mods to get you that stock 12's.. [ October 02, 2003, 03:46 PM: Message edited by: 98slowhoe ]

accually its 600 lbs of torque but still pretty bad ass, relize the only thing that they don't replace is the case itself, thats not a rebuild its a gut and replace. Striaght cut gears too if you want, nice and laud
