When I begin to modify my engine I want it to be somewhat impressive when I pop the hood, I'm going to be getting the chrome Mac cold air induction, buying my friend chrome Pro M Mass air meter, and I have an aluminum Throttle Body, 94-95 Elbow, and Edelbrock Performer RPM upper/lower intake manifold. I know its possible to polish the aluminum parts, but is it possible to chrome dip them? I dont need EVERY part in my engine to be chrome or anything, but I think a chrome strut tower brace, Intake manifold, CAI, MAF, TB, Valve Covers, pulleys, and Radiator hose would look really nice and clean. Are there any downsides to chrome instead of polishing? Won't get rid of heat as easy or something? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...Joe

I wouldnt chrome it, creates a lot of heat under the hood, I would ceramic coat it, looks similar or polish, try Brite Hot Coatings, www.capsbhc.com, 877-647-2628

dont crome anything under there. it will get hot as hell and dirty very fast. if you want it to look "clean," then hid all your wiring in the fenders and clean everything up. do a search on stangnet for engine compartments. i remember looking at a thread that had about 50 pics of them. most were very nice looking

Polished aluminum and chrome do reflect a lot of heat, but they look bitchin. Ceramic coat your headers, but polish the aluminum parts. Chrome the steel parts, and the combo will look sweet. Chrome is great until you gouge it or chip it, polished parts can just be polished again. And by the way, it is way easier to polish an intake and throttle body, for example, than to "hid" all the wiring as cobraman suggested. Lengthening harnesses and filling engine bay holes is a pain in the ass, but it is worth it because it is so rarely done.

a buffing wheel and some polishing compound can do wonders under the hood

How hard is it and what would I need to buy to be able to polish my intake upper/lower, throttle body, and 94-95 elbow? I have them just sitting in a closet because I'm not going to have them put on until I get the rest of my engine components and I sit around the house a lot of the time not doing shit and I'd like to polish them up!

Yep, you chrome steel parts and polish aluminum.. Check out my engine

I bought the little chrome caps to cover my brake fliud resevior, power steering, radiator over flow, and winshield washer fluid....No matter how well you put those things on they seem to fall off...
Other than my chrome cold air kit, the only part I had chrome dipped was the ingition coil bracket...Just to get it chromed dipped it was more expensive than getting my throttle body and my 94-95 intake elbow polished...I also had to have my Edelbrock intake sand blasted to take the powerder coating off, before I could get it polished...
Just to let you know, its a bitch to keep clean..Once you have one engine part chromed it makes the other things look dull, so you have to do those too!..

Hey Black 94 5.0....That's a nice lookin engine man, I see in your sig your car is for sale...how much are you asking and how many miles are on it? looks like a really clean car and my friend is in the market. How much did it cost to get your elbow, throttlebody, and upper/lower intake manifold polished?

Thanx, I'm asking $7500.obo.....I have 100,180miles on the car....I NEVER planned on selling the car, but due to my family growing I need to sell it to get an SUV....
I had the upper intake sand blasted and polished for $100...The polish shop didnt know they had to sand blast the powder coating off before they could polish it, so $100 was pretty cheap...The elbow was around $15. and the TB was around $20 to get polished...I had it done at Franks Polish in Hayward, right off Industrial....
