Finally, Sportsman based 327, forged crank, rods, pistons, girdled, and am still gonna use my old school e-cam/1.7 combo, and trusty iron gt-40s. Putting the 2.95 on the head unit too. gotta make the most out of what I have, so better heads and cam combo later on after the trans gets done. Oh yeah, guess I'm gonna be making another visit to Byron too.

That motor will feel lika truck. I thought everyone agreed you'd be better off selling the GT40 heads for ~$400 and building a 306? You'll save another ~$500 by not going the stroker rout which means you'll have $900 to buy some TFS heads. 306+ TFS heads + 12 psi of vortech boost+your fave cam and intake is a proven fun, reliable high HP street car 5.O combo

Truck? your smoking crack. it made 420 to the wheels with those heads, cam etc. thats good enough for me, plus I dont want to overbore a brand new block. The smaller pulley will help out with my less then popular heads. Plus I have other things to address, such as the trans., and the 331/347/306s are all the same price BTW, so I will save nada. I'm letting those interested know, not asking for you to decide for me. -Rob [ August 29, 2003, 02:23 PM: Message edited by: 5LVENOM ]

By truck, I meant a lot of power down low. If its a new block, then build a 306. Either way, I'm all for selling the GT40's and putting that money along with the money you save by _not_buying_a_stroker_kit_ towards a set of aluminum heads. You'll make more power with out needing a smaller pulley. Plus, a stroked and boosted Mustang making ~450 HP will make us look bad infront of the LS1 guys.

Rob, A little bit of advise I learned the hard way.... Adding displacement to heads that flow ~190cfm on the intake will only make matters worse as far as peak HP output is concerned. The added displacement will increase the velocity of the air through the heads....which is actually quite good for torque output...but the problem is, even with boost you'll be maxing out the airflow velocity through the heads by ~5K-5200rpm. This means that if you have a setup that is suppose to peak above that level, it will not peak as high as it should. I'm all for keeping the GT40 Irons & running boost through them. But.....not with displacement...unless the heads have been ported....& preferably had larger valves put in. I wish I hadn't built a 331 & stayed with a 3 inch stroke. -Shaun

I WILL NOT SAVE MONEY, the 331/347/306s are the same price, and 450 hp is fine by me, I'm not trying to be John Force, I want a STRONG,RELIABLE motor. Plus a 450 rwhp steet car is pretty damn good in my book, LS1 guys or not. Shaun- thank for the info..heads will come later. [ August 29, 2003, 02:47 PM: Message edited by: 5LVENOM ]

You're right, if you're happy with the results and meet your goals, then that's all that counts.... regardless of what anyone says or thinks
So what boost levels and what fuel system will you be running?

You should be okay. 450 rwhp isn't out of the question for that setup. Be sure to post your results

If you aren't saving money by goign 327 why not go with a 347 and go with more displacement

Dont have money for heads to top a 347 yet, and want this done. Plus when it needs a rebuild I can bore it .030 over and call it good at 331.

I dont understand why everyone wants a 347 the oil consumtion sucks the rod ratio is to long for the stroke and reliabilty is very poor, just go with a 351(357) for a few hundred dollers more.

CHP 347 strokers dont have that problem
and a 351W swap in a fox is a lot more then a few hundred dollars more. unless you have some secret
